The start of an empire: Pasargardae

Pasargardae is one of the first capitals of the Persian empire.  Founded in the 6th century B.C. by Cyrus the Great, it is located near the city of Shiraz.  Although, it is smaller and less well preserved that Persepolis it is still worth the visit because it is the site of the tomb of Cyrus the Great, one of the greatest emperors in history.  I encourage you to find out more about Cyrus the Great and why I believe he is one of the greatest emperors in history.  Here are some of my favourite photos…..

  1. I would love to visit Iran, especially because I’m so close as I’m currently living in Turkey, but alas it’s not in the cards! I’m so amazed by this regions history, I mean it IS the cradle of civilization! People from the United States are always amazing by the history in Europe, and of course I understand the enchantment, but this is the real deal.
